How much do you play the Spiel des Jahres winners?

Thinking about the Spiel des Jahres winners I haven't played, I became curious about which ones folks have actually played - and how much. While I can get the total play data from BGG, (1) many people - myself included - don't record plays here, (2) it's not easy to see how much the plays vary across a bunch of people, and (3) it's not easy to see how many people play a game at various levels - there's not a chart of times played.

So I decided to create this geeklist and a bunch of polls to get a feel for the answer - non-scientific, but I'm not in a scientific mood today.

* If you're going to respond to one poll, please respond to all of them. There's only 30...

* Estimates are explicitly welcome.

Thanks!

This is one of the games I grew up with that I still own (the original Ravensburger edition) and like. So I´m one of the 100+ voters. It´s probably way above 100 plays.

I own it, but haven't had a chance to get it on the table.

3ish times when I was a kid. My friends had this. Since then I've tracked down a copy myself, but no plays so far.

Wow Rummikub won! Well I never knew that.....Might explain why I actually enjoyed it as a kid though...Having said that I really enjoy some Rummy variants with cards too...Generally the ones most like Rummikub.

Have played this many times, most of them before I ever knew about BGG. This one is a real hit with my in-laws & my mom.:surprise:

I actually just picked this up today, always wanted to play and never got a chance. There were 3 of them at the thrift store for 2 bucks each. I figured it was too common to bother picking up more than one.

This is just Ticket to Ride without the trains.

Yeah, this one's not quite fair since I played it with my grandma when I was 7 years old, long before I had any idea what was going on.

Huh? I don't get this statement at all.

Rummikub is one of my favorites. It's simple, easy to learn and has lots of options. Once the board starts filling up, there are tons of possibilities as you can rearrange the entire board as long as the end result it legal. I imagine those who are less analytical wouldn't care for it, but it was a pleasant, cheap surprise for me.

I would like to qualify my "10 to 19" times played with "and never again if I can help it". Mindless game, much inferior to Gin Rummy.

Again, I don't get these sorts of statements. I understand that we all like different things, but I don't qualify this as mindless at all, there are a lot more gameplay options than in Gin Rummy for my taste. It doesn't sound like we're playing the same game.

If you were just drawing tiles and waiting to play sets and runs, I'd agree with you. The ability to rearrange the board however it benefits you is what makes the game enjoyable and not mindless for me.
